At last count, I read some insane number of blogs – around 150. And some of them are so, so good that I only think it’s fair to share the wealth! Here are some of the highlights, broken up into categories to make them much more manageable. Many could fit into several categories, but I did my best. If you have any suggestions for additions, please email me at slightlycosmopolitan at gmail dot com.
Must Reads – When these blogs have updates, the deck gets cleared because they must. get. read. now.
- { A } – The Ali Edwards blogs about her own scrapbooking experiences.
- Blog Nosh – A great compilation blog. I often find new blogs to add to my reader by checking out what they post.
- Bring The Rain – If you read no other blog, you should read this blog. It’s that important. Written by Angie Smith, wife to Selah lead Todd Smith, Angie blogs about her life, especially the loss of their daughter, Audrey Caroline.
- Do I Really Need a Blog? – This is my husband, Tahd’s blog. I’m the only person he permits to read it, but I’m hoping if he gets deluged with activation requests that he’ll finally relent and make it public. So please. Sign up. Signing up more than once is even better. He’s a great writer, and I think he’s kinda cute, too.
- I’m Not Obsessed – A fun celebrity gossip blog without the sleaze you find at other sites.
- Light Your World – Friends of ours, Greg and Nicol Sponberg, blog about their life and thoughts surrounding the death of their son, Luke. Nicol is Todd Smith’s sister (see above).
- Moosh in Indy – In my opinion, this is such a great all-around blog. I really relate to it on a few levels. This mom blogs about living her own life, parenting her daughter who happens to be close to Gabe’s age, and struggling with infertility.
- Ohdeedoh – I save practically every post from this blog. A division of the popular Apartment Therapy, this blog focuses on children – their rooms, their fashions, their projects, and their interests, all from a sophisticated, more-classic-than-plastic perspective.
- Smitten Kitchen – YUM. That’s all I have to say!
- The Belly Project – A new blog that fascinates me. Women send in photos of their bellies. My description sounds dumb, but I find it quite interesting.
- The Pioneer Woman Cooks – Another yum! And engaging, too.
- Unclutterer – I think this blog has great tips. I’m constantly battling my clutter, and this blog inspires me to do better.
Medical/Health Blogs
- At Your Cervix – A completely fascinating read about a labor-and-delivery nurse who is going back to school to become a midwife.
- Doctor Mama - A doctor/runner blogs about life and work.
- Ob/Gyn Kenobi – Ditto Neonatal Doc.
Blogs Related to Fertility
- Becoming a Family of Four – I love this blog. My friend, Maren, writes about her struggle to add a second child to their family. She’s endured numerous miscarriages and various fertility treatments, including in vitro fertilization.
- Dr. Liccardi’s Infertility Blog – One of my favorite fertility blogs. Dr. Liccardi is a reproductive endocrinologist – code for fertility specialist. He writes articles about issues related to infertility, and readers write in with questions he periodically answers. The information is technical without being too technical, and extremely useful.
- Renovation Girl – I’ve gotten to know Renovation Girl a bit through her blog, and I’m holding out all hope they have their next baby soon!
Fantastic, Compelling, or Otherwise Entertaining Reads
- Between Nut and Saddle – Keith is the worship pastor at my church. I enjoy reading his blog. It’s thought provoking, and he has the cutest daughter ever. And I also think it’s interesting to experience a worship service having had the chance to peer into the mind of the person planning the service.
- Hostess With the Mostess – This is a great blog about parties and special events. I love it. It’s all shiny and inspiring and it makes you want to attend all her parties. And throw a few of your own, too!
- Loralee’s Looney Tunes – I love Loralee. She has no clue who I am so my love for her may be weird, but her blog keeps me reading and I find myself constantly rooting for her.
- Major Bedhead – One of my faves! Major Bedhead is always honest, often laugh-out-loud funny, sometimes pithy, and definitely one you should have in your reader. She’s another one I’m constantly rooting for. I hope 2009 is her year.
- Owlhaven – I hardly know what to say about this blog. Mary has (I think?) 10 kids, many adopted, and she blogs about lots of things, including her deep faith. It’s a really encouraging blog, and I’m intrigued by the way big families work so I enjoy reading her stories.
- Sacred and Profane – Another Heidi writes this blog. She recently found mind and I’ve enjoyed reading hers! She has a whole set of links to other “Heidi” bloggers.
- The Anonymous Liberal – I don’t agree with everything he writes, but I’m surrounded in real life by people who are quite comfortable expounding on their conservative beliefs, so I enjoy the chance to experience a true liberal’s perspective via this blog.
- The Bloggess – I think this is the funniest blog I’ve ever read. Irreverant? Yes. But so, so funny that you can’t pay attention to the potentially offending issues because you’re too worried you might wet your pants.
- Velveteen Mind – Interesting read, but I have to say I’m most obsessed with the name. I love it. That’s not to say the content isn’t delectable, but the name gets me every time. Megan is also the founder of Blog Nosh magazine.
Stuff for Parents - Rather than expound on each of these individually, just know that if you’re looking for something cheap and fun to do with your kids, these blogs have an answer. They’re truly excellent, and most definitely make me a better mother. Or else they make me feel like a complete loser. lol
Blogs by Friends and Other Moms - I love all my mommy friends!
Check out their blogs! They’re all different and varied, and you’re sure to relate to at least one or two.
